This picturesque bike and boat tour takes you to the most beautiful areas along the Rhine and Moselle cycle paths. First of all, you will travel to the UNESCO World Heritage region of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, where the famous Loreley Rock and other impressive landscape formations await you. Around 40 castles, palaces and fortresses tower high above both banks, while picturesque villages and towns are strung along the river like pearls on a string. The journey continues into the meanders of the Moselle valley and its historic villages and settlements. Famous for its wines, the Moselle valley boasts numerous vineyards and steep slopes. Beilstein, Traben-Trarbach and Bernkastel-Kues are just a few places on the Moselle that are famous for their wines.
The historically interesting town of Koblenz, with its location directly at the confluence of the Moselle and Rhine rivers, offers an ideal starting point for your trip. Constantly accompanied by your hotel ship Arkona, you don’t have to worry about a thing - if you want to take a break from cycling, you can always stay on board and enjoy the wonderful scenery.
Route
You ride mostly on bike paths, farm roads and on dirt roads and have hardly any inclines to overcome. The quality of the Moselle Cycle Path is excellent. There are practically no unpaved or poorly passable stretches of road. The route runs almost exclusively on asphalt paths.
Embarkation at 2 pm in Koblenz followed by a trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. The day’s destination, St. Goar, impresses with the Rheinfels ruins overlooking the town and its unique location near the famous Loreley Rock.
Your first cycle tour starts from St. Goar along the Rhine Cycle Path to the Loreley Rock. Another highlight on your tour towards the day’s destination is the small island at the narrow "Binger Loch" with the medieval Mäuseturm tower. You then take the ferry to the wine town of Rüdesheim.
–Use the morning hours to explore Rüdesheim before setting off on today’s cycle tour to Mainz. There are two routes to choose from today: While the short version is always flat along the Rhine, the longer tour takes you on a somewhat steeper detour to Eberbach Abbey, which is famous for its wine-growing. Once you arrive in Mainz, you will have enough time to explore the numerous sights.
Early in the morning, the ship heads back downstream toward Koblenz, allowing you to enjoy the scenery you’ve already explored by bike from the deck. Once you arrive in Winningen, your bike tour begins along the picturesque Moselle. Passing through Moselkern, the hilltop castle of Eltz (a steep detour), and Münden, you’ll eventually arrive at the wine-growing village of Treis-Karden.
While you enjoy breakfast, the ship will sail to Zell, where you’ll begin today’s bike tour. Along the way, you’ll pass through Traben-Trarbach, once an important center for the wine trade. Even today, impressive Art Nouveau buildings bear witness to this era. The route continues through a varied, unspoiled landscape along the Moselle, offering ever-changing views of vineyards and river bends.
In the morning, the ship will take you back to Zell. This time, you’ll cycle downstream to Cochem. This stretch is one of the most scenic routes of your trip. Highlights of the day include the picturesque village of Beilstein, known for the Black Madonna, and the Bremmer Calmont, considered the steepest vineyard in Europe.
In Cochem, you’ll have plenty of time to visit the imposing Reichsburg, stroll through the old town, or watch the lively hustle and bustle from a café. After dinner, you’ll have the opportunity to take part in a wine tasting at the historic Hieronimi wine house, located right next to the ship.
In the morning, the ship will take you to Lehmen, where your last bike tour begins. The route takes you through historic Moselle villages such as Kobern-Gondorf and Winningen, where Germany’s oldest wine festival is celebrated every year. Along the way, you’ll be impressed by the steep vineyards, and if you travel in August or September, you’ll encounter winemakers busy with the grape harvest. In the afternoon, explore beautiful Koblenz or take the cable car to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress to enjoy the panoramic view of the Rhine and Moselle.
Disembarkation after breakfast until 9.30 am. Idividual departure or extension.
Due to varying wind and weather conditions, as well as organizational necessities, we reserve the right to make changes to the itinerary.
Please keep in mind that the ship is both your hotel and a machine that needs to be maintained and operated - both during the day and at night. Noise due to operation is therefore unavoidable.
