Pearls of the Baltic Sea

Gdansk - Masuria - Riga

Itinerary

Route

In the Oberland partly flat, partly hilly (Elbinger Höhe, altitude differences up to 200 m), mostly side streets. On the Curonian Spit slightly hilly and flat on the Baltic Sea coast, side streets/paved bike paths.

Individual arrival in Gdansk. In the late afternoon (approx. 5 pm), there will be a guided tour of the restored old town of Gdansk.

After breakfast, a short transfer and then the first bike tour in the direction of Malbork. After the bike tour, visit the imposing castle of the Grand Masters of the Teutonic Order, built in the 13th century (UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998). Overnight stay in Malbork.

After breakfast, a bike ride to Buczyniec (Buchwalde), where your boat trip begins on the Elblag Canal and leads through the picturesque Lake Drausensee to Elblag. The canal is one of the most interesting waterways in terms of the technical solutions used to overcome the differences in altitude. The unique technical installations created in the 19th century - inclined planes and other objects - are a major tourist attraction that is unique in Europe. Overnight stay in Elblag.

Today’s bike route leads through the “Elbinger Höhe” landscape park, which you will cycle from Cadinen to Frombork. In Cadinen, there was once the stud farm of Kaiser Wilhelm II. In Frombork, we recommend visiting the cathedral hill. Overnight stay in Frombork or the surrounding area.

After a short transfer, your next bike tour will take you through the Ermland region. On the way to Lidzbark Warmiński, you can visit the Bishop’s Castle, the High Gate and the Church of St. Peter and Paul. The next attraction is a monastery (Springborn Monastery), where the Polish Primate Wyszyński was interned. Overnight stay in Giżycko in the heart of the Masurian Lake District.

After breakfast transfer (ca. 300 km) to Lithuania. In the afternoon bike tour through the regional park of the Memeldelta. The route leads to the Winderburger Ecke, where there is a remarkable ornithological station with an octagonal lighthouse. Overnight stay in Silute or the surrounding area.

You will start the day with a boat trip across the Curonian Lagoon to Nida. Here you will visit the Thomas Mann House, the Curonian Cemetery and admire the beautiful dune landscape of the Curonian Spit. The beautiful bike path leads through the forests and old fishing villages in a northerly direction. In Schwarzort, you will visit the witches’ mountain and an interesting cormorant colony. After the ferry ride, you will reach your accommodation in Klaipeda by bike. In the evening, we recommend a stroll through the old town. The center of the old town is Theaterplatz with the “Änchen von Tharau” monument. Overnight stay in Klaipeda.

Today you will cycle along the beautiful bike path along the Baltic Sea coast. On the way, visit the Lithuanian summer capital Palanga, which is known for its beaches, unforgettable sunsets, pier and amber museum. The small, old but very interesting town of Kuldiga can be reached by bus (about 120 km). You can visit Kuldiga on your own. Overnight stay in Kuldiga.

You will leave Kuldiga by bicycle and cycle through a very unspoilt landscape, where the Kurzeme region presents itself in a truly beautiful way with forests and wide fields. After the bike tour, you will take a bus (approx. 120 km) to the well-known Latvian seaside resort of Jurmala, where you can take a walk. In the afternoon you will reach the “Pearl of the Baltic” - the Latvian capital Riga. The metropolis is full of imposing Gothic, Renaissance and Art Nouveau buildings and is famous for the vibrant life of its old town. Overnight stay in Riga.
