Explore the beautiful landscapes of Puglia on this bike tour, circle the Salento (the boot-heel of Italy) and cycle along breathtaking coastal sections. As the sea breeze caresses your face, you will discover small villages and artistic towns along the route. Don’t miss the famous trulli of Alberobello, whose extraordinary architecture is widely known. Lecce, the final destination of your Puglia tour, also has plenty to offer: the city’s baroque buildings for example invite you to take a long stroll through the city.
Route
Mostly flat route with a few hilly sections on mostly asphalted roads with little traffic (outside the high season). Care should only be taken when entering and exiting cities due to traffic.
Individual arrival in Alberobello. Use the day to explore this extraordinary city with its cone-shaped buildings, known as trulli, which have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.
The first stage of your journey takes you through beautiful landscapes to Ostuni. The city is also called the ‘white city’ because of its architecture of white walls and houses.
Today’s route takes you to the plains of Salento, a landscape characterised by olive trees and bright red earth. On your way to Manduria, you will pass through Oria, where the castle and historic centre invite you to linger.
From today on, the route will take you along the coast. First, it will take you to Porto Cesareo, where you should not miss out on a fish dish, which is typical for the region. Further south, you will reach Gallipoli, which is today’s destination and boasts one of the most beautiful historical centres of the Salento.
Your destination today is the town of Santa Maria di Leuca. It was named by ancient Greek seafarers because when they arrived, the city was bathed in bright sunlight (leukos = white).
Today you will travel north along the Adriatic coast to Otranto, the easternmost point of Italy. Visit the imposing cathedral and the large Aragonese castle.
Today you cycle along the Alumini Lakes to your final destination, Lecce. Also known as the Florence of the South, the city delights its visitors with artistic ornaments and beautiful baroque buildings.
