Cycling in the footsteps of Austria’s imperial past

Itinerary

Route

Country roads, cycling paths, field paths, terrain is hilly with some larger uphill stretches. Please be informed that there will be more traffic on country roads during the summer holidays.

Individual arrival in Salzburg. Check-In at your hotel and hand over of your travel documents. Explore Salzburg on your own.

You leave Salzburg and cycle towards the Salzkammergut. The impressive Dragonwall shows you the way to Lake Mondsee. As soon as you have crossed the Scharfling and passed the picturesque Lake Krottensee, a breathtaking view of Lake Wolfgang opens up. From the Mozart village of St. Gilgen, you take the boat to St. Wolfgang. It is then only a short distance to the historic imperial town of Bad Ischl. On the last stage of the day to Bad Goisern, you follow the picturesque course of the Traun river.

The day tour first takes you to the Dachstein-Salzkammergut UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the region reveals its wild beauty. You cross Bad Goisern and reach Lake Hallstatt, which is surrounded by mighty rock faces and has a history stretching back over 7,000 years. From the eastern shore, you have a breathtaking view of Hallstatt, which is considered the "most beautiful lakeside town in the world". You then follow the course of the Traun River to Lake Traunsee, your destination for the day.

Lake Traunsee stretches like a fjord between the Traunstein and Höllengebirge mountains. Cycle along the shores of the lake towards the ceramics town of Gmunden. Through the Aurachtal valley you reach the turquoise-colored Attersee and continue your ride to Mondsee, your destination today.

Starting from Mondsee, you cycle across the Irrsee into the „Salzburger Land“. Past the Mattsee, Grabensee and Obertrumer See lakes, the route takes you on a leisurely ride back to Salzburg. Here you have one last view of the magnificent mountains of the Salzkammergut. Your luggage will be taken to the partner hotel in Salzburg by 18:00 at the latest. You then depart on your own. You are also welcome to extend your stay in Salzburg.
