Look forward to this sail & bike tour through Tuscany and its breathtaking scenery. Cycle in the foot-steps of the Etruscans, and enjoy the Italian ‘Dolce Vita!’. Cypress trees, wine fields and olive trees spread across the rolling hills characterizing the typical Tuscan landscape. Picturesque medieval towns with small cobbled streets and colorful houses invite curious visitors. Beautiful sandy beaches and remoted bays beckon for a swim in the glistening blue water.
Route
Cycling tours through mountainous terrain with challenging climbs of over 600 meters in altitude. All tours, including the altitude differences, can be easily mastered with electronic assistance. Requires very good cycling skills, even on descents with some steep hairpin bends and unpaved paths.
The roads are mostly paved and have little traffic outside of holiday periods. On the islands of Elba and Giglio, some sections are on unpaved gravel and dirt roads. Traffic is to be expected in and around coastal towns. The section of road before the island’s capital, Portoferraio, is somewhat busier.
Individual arrival in Porto Santo Stefano, a charming port town on the Monte Argentario peninsula. Check-in on the ship is at 6 p.m., luggage can be brought on board from 2 p.m. Explore the old town in the Borgo style or visit the Fortezza Spagnola. Dinner and overnight stay on board.
Your first bike ride takes you to Orbetello, where, with a little luck, you may see flamingos in the lagoon. The route continues to the ruins of the Roman town of Cosa and through the Duna Feniglia nature reserve with its beautiful pine forest. Back in Porto St. Stefano, you take the boat to Talamone. Overnight stay at anchor.
Today you will sail to Elba, Italy’s third largest island. If the wind is favorable, you will set sail together and receive an introduction to sailing. After lunch on board, there will be time for swimming before you reach the sheltered bay of Porto Azzurro. In the evening, you can explore this charming town.
Today you will explore Elba by bike. Your destination is charming Capoliveri, where you can soak up the Italian charm and enjoy a delicious ice cream or coffee. A beautiful panoramic road takes you back to Porto Azzurro. In the evening, a wine tasting awaits you.
Today, a slightly longer bike ride from Porto Azzurro to the north of Elba Island awaits you. After a coffee break in Rio nell’Elba, you will reach one of the most impressive viewpoints of the trip. At Voltereio, you can look out over the bay of Portoferreo, the island’s capital. After lunch, it is only a few kilometers to the beautiful bay of Enfola.
Today is the queen stage! You will cycle across Elba, visit Marciana, and climb to the highest point of the tour at Monte Perone. Then it’s downhill to San Piero in Campo, where lunch with a view of the ship awaits you. Afterwards, there will be a swim break from the boat. After dinner, you will sail on to the island of Giglio, a natural paradise with mountains, forests, and turquoise blue sea!
Today, you will disembark at Campese and cycle up to Giglio Castello, a medieval mountain village with magnificent views. You will then whizz downhill to Giglio Porto. On the return trip to Porto San Stefano, you can enjoy the sea air and island views once again. The evening on board will be relaxed and atmospheric – a wonderful end to your sailing and cycling trip.
Due to varying wind and weather conditions and organizational requirements, we reserve the right to change the route. Depending on the wind, this trip may occasionally be carried out in a different order.
As our sailing ship is too large for small fishing ports, you will spend the night at anchor in many places. This also means that your cycling day will often begin with a crossing in a dinghy. Sure-footedness and a certain degree of mobility are required for embarking and disembarking. The tour guide and crew will be happy to assist you when boarding the ship.

Guided group pace: The guided group pace is based on the e-bike riders. If you are riding a gravel bike on an e-bike tour, you should not be surprised by the faster basic pace. Cyclists without e-bikes should therefore be fit enough to keep up with the group. Thank you for your understanding.
Own bikes: Please note that due to safety risks and lack of space on board, it is NOT possible to bring your own e-bikes on this trip. Bringing your own trekking bikes is not recommended due to the group pace.

Additional information
Helmet obligation
Helmets are compulsory on the bike tours. Please bring your own well-fitting helmet. A limited number of rental helmets are available on the ship (advance reservation required).
Children
Basically, we believe that only children with good stamina and a minimum age of 10 years can manage the bike tours under their own power. Please note that rental e-bikes can only be provided for children over 1.50 m tall.
Special features of the harbors and anchorages
Since our sailing ships are too big for small fishing ports, in many places you will spend the night at anchor. This also means that your cycling day often starts with a crossing in a dinghy. Stepping on and off a tallship requires surefootedness and a certain degree of agility. Trip leaders and crew will be happy to assist you in boarding the vessel if necessary. In general, wind and swell (swell on the surface of the water) have a major impact on the timing of our sailing trips.
Own bicycles
Please note that due to safety risks and lack of space on board, it is NOT possible to bring your own e-bikes on this trip. We do not recommend bringing your own trekking bikes due to the pace of the group.
