This picturesque bike and boat tour takes you to the most beautiful areas along the Rhine and Moselle cycle paths. First of all, you will travel to the UNESCO World Heritage region of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, where the famous Loreley Rock and other impressive landscape formations await you. Around 40 castles, palaces and fortresses tower high above both banks, while picturesque villages and towns are strung along the river like pearls on a string. The journey continues into the meanders of the Moselle valley and its historic villages and settlements. Famous for its wines, the Moselle valley boasts numerous vineyards and steep slopes. Beilstein, Traben-Trarbach and Bernkastel-Kues are just a few places on the Moselle that are famous for their wines.
The historically interesting town of Koblenz, with its location directly at the confluence of the Moselle and Rhine rivers, offers an ideal starting point for your trip. Constantly accompanied by your hotel ship Arkona, you don’t have to worry about a thing - if you want to take a break from cycling, you can always stay on board and enjoy the wonderful scenery.
Route
You ride mostly on bike paths, farm roads and on dirt roads and have hardly any inclines to overcome. The quality of the Moselle Cycle Path is excellent. There are practically no unpaved or poorly passable stretches of road. The route runs almost exclusively on asphalt paths.
Embarkation at 2 pm in Koblenz followed by a trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. The day’s destination, St. Goar, impresses with the Rheinfels ruins overlooking the town and its unique location near the famous Loreley Rock.
Your first cycle tour starts from St. Goar along the Rhine Cycle Path to the Loreley Rock. Another highlight on your tour towards the day’s destination is the small island at the narrow "Binger Loch" with the medieval Mäuseturm tower. You then take the ferry to the wine town of Rüdesheim.
–Use the morning hours to explore Rüdesheim before setting off on today’s cycle tour to Mainz. There are two routes to choose from today: While the short version is always flat along the Rhine, the longer tour takes you on a somewhat steeper detour to Eberbach Abbey, which is famous for its wine-growing. Once you arrive in Mainz, you will have enough time to explore the numerous sights.
Early in the morning, the ship sails back downstream towards Koblenz, where you can now enjoy the landscapes you have already explored by bike from the deck. Arriving at the Lehmen lock, your cycle tour now starts along the picturesque Moselle. Via Moselkern, the hilltop castle of Eltz (steep detour) and Münden, you finally reach the wine-growing village of Treis-Karden.
While you are having breakfast, the boat sails to Beilstein, where you start today’s cycle tour. You cycle through an extremely winding section of the Moselle valley (Cochemer Krampen) and past vineyards and idyllic villages towards today’s destination: Traben-Trarbach, with its two districts spread across the south and north banks of the Moselle.
In the morning, you have the option of taking a round trip to Bernkastel-Kues or exploring Traben-Trarbach. In the afternoon, you will either travel by boat or by bike to the next stage town of Cochem. Cochem is best known for the Reichsburg castle, which towers high above the town.
After a breakfast ride to Winningen, get on the saddle for the last few kilometers of your cycle tour and cover the short distance between Winningen and Koblenz. You have the afternoon at your disposal to explore the historic old town of Koblenz. Koblenz was built by the Romans as a fortified settlement at the confluence of the Moselle and Rhine rivers, hence the origin of its name ("Confluentes" - confluence)
Due to varying wind and weather conditions, as well as organizational necessities, we reserve the right to make changes to the itinerary.
Please keep in mind that the ship is both your hotel and a machine that needs to be maintained and operated - both during the day and at night. Noise due to operation is therefore unavoidable.
