From Graz to the Thermal and Volcano Region of Styria

Mur Cycle Path South

Itinerary

Route

The signposted and asphalted bikepaths are flat to slightly hilly along rivers.

Individual arrival in Graz. Let your day start smoothly and enjoy the charming and expressive city.

After an energizing breakfast, you will receive your rental bikes, if booked. The tour starts at around 9:00 a.m. and takes you briefly through the city before you reach the Mur River and turn onto the Mur Cycle Path. Follow this cycle path to Leibnitz, riding further and further away from the hustle and bustle of the city into the tranquility of the countryside. Leibnitz is considered the gourmet district of Styria and, in addition to countless vineyards, also offers culinary specialties and handicrafts.

Today’s stage takes you along the Mur River to the spa town of Bad Radkersburg on the border with Slovenia. Don’t miss out on a ride on the Mur ferry, which is powered solely by the force of the water. Other highlights include the ship mill and the Mur Tower in the middle of the Murauen landscape.

Today, you will take a trip across the border to Croatia. In the morning, the bike taxi will take you to Štrigova, a charming village surrounded by hills, some of which are used for wine growing. Two churches dominate the townscape. In a remote valley, you will cross the border into Slovenia. You will return to your host via the new Mur Cycle Path.

The highlight of today is Bad Gleichenberg, a historic spa town where the nobility and Emperor Franz Josef spent their vacations. The old, historic villas will tell you stories from days gone by. Other sights along the route include the Bulldogwirt with its collection of historic agricultural machinery, Straden, and Rosenberg.

Today, you will cycle north through the Raab Valley. You will pass through the district capital of Feldbach, which is considered the gateway to the Styrian Volcanic Region. Continuing north, you will reach the beautiful town of Gleisdorf. From here, you will head to Lassnitzhöhe, the only significant climb on the last day of cycling. Downhill, you will follow the cycle path to Graz to spend your last evening in the cultural capital.
